The Music Brewery

Introducing the atmospheric beauty of Megan Dixon Hood – this talented ethereal female vocalist won’t stay undiscovered for much longer. Listen here first on The Music Brewery to get one up on your mates!

Mixing the twee gentle tones of Emiliana Torrini and the atmosphere and power of Julia Stone, Dixon-Hood’s tracks are spell-binding, haunting and truly heartfelt.

Dixon-Hood’s Début

Her recently released début EP Early Morning Riser is a sweet, brooding gem. Three distinct, unique tracks show the range Dixon-Hood has in her musicality. Power, atmosphere, the ability to be stripped back or with a full production, she is evidently very versatile. The EP also features a radio edit of the title track ‘Early Morning Riser’ which I’m sure will be heard over airwaves across the country.

Pressing keys and creating airs of magic Dixon-Hood, 19, is like a female Tom Odell but with ten times a voice. The aforementioned first track ‘Early Morning Riser’ is stunning. Stripped back and laid bare, the track opens with melodic piano and Dixon-Hood’s rising and falling vocals as she repeats the beautifully simple lyrics “Early morning riser, you see all that we don’t see as we sleep / Early morning riser, quietly you move but you do not speak, you do not speak…” The layering of piano tones works beautifully to up the pace of the track as the pitter patter drums lead the track to a climax of ethereal Dixon-Hood vocals.

Dixon-Hood is hitting the scene at the right time as this kind of music is in right now, you just have to look at the success of the likes of Ben Howard, Tom Odell and Angus and Julia Stone to see that.

Her brand of minimalistic folk is en-capturing and this continues throughout the EP with the dark ‘I Am a Theif’ in which Dixon-Hood stretches her vocal range to the limit. ‘A Year From Now’ opens with funky bass and twee acoustic guitar, layering and layering magically with piano as Dixon-Hood comes in with great lyrics which have the makings of being her own big sing-along tune.

There’s plenty more where that came from as well! On her Souncloud page the talented singer-songwriter has a further two tracks for us – ‘Siren’ and ‘Phosphorescent//Song For Zula’. I don’t have a clue what phosphorescent means or if it’s even a real word but I love the track! Dream-like and uplifting, Dixon-Hood transports you somewhere else with her entrancing vocal style – simply sublime.

The future is bright for the Cheshire born singer-songwriter and we here at The Music Brewery are tipping her for big things in the future but for now you can see Megan perform live at Sound Control in Manchester on Wednesday 3rd December. Before the gig you best brush up on your singing to at least try and compete with Megan so check her out on Spotify and Soundcloud.

As always if you like what you hear don’t forget to support our Undiscovered artists by buying their music, going to their shows and of course simply by connecting with them on social media.
